When you’ve been living in The Netherlands for more than five years you can apply for permanent residency or even full Dutch citizenship.
This requires passing a civic integration examination (inburgeringsexamen). This exam comes in different flavours, ranging from the easy basic integration exam to the more difficult State Examination for Dutch as a second language (Staatsexamen NT2)
Apart from the reading, listening, speaking and writing exams, you also need to proof that you have some knowledge of Dutch society and that you know how to find a job in the Netherlands. These are the exams Kennis van de Nederlandse Maatschappij (KNM) and Oriëntatie op de Nederlandse Arbeidsmarkt (ONA).
Annelies Braams from NedLes has helped many expats to get through these exams in the most efficient way and she will tell you all you need to know about these exams.
